Ray and his wife, Trish own Baxter & Neilson Plumbers Ltd based in Invercargill, and employ eighteen staff including five apprentices. Ray's plumbing career has covered 37 years. He is currently Vice President of Master Plumbers, Gasfitters & Drainlayers NZ Inc as well as being a member of the Finance Committee.
Outside of work Ray and Trish, along with their two daughters (who have settled in Dunedin) enjoy a holiday home in Te Anau.
They are also heavily involved with junior cycling - they sponsor a track series for the under 13,15,17 categories at the ILT Velodrome, as well as providing hi-tech equipment for their own development squad members to use. Squad members include double world cup gold medalist Tom Scully and Oceania medalist Cathy Jordan.
