Doug commenced his plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying apprenticeship in 1976. He has obtained registration in plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying, and is a craftsman in plumbing and gasfitting, and holds an advanced trade certificate in plumbing.
Doug has approval from EECA regarding solar water heater installations. He has an interest in electrical and holds tradesperson electrical work. Doug is currently completing an Electrical Technicians Certificate A in May of this year.
A Director of Southern Plumbing & Gasfitting Ltd, Doug's firm employs thirteen specialising in servicing. The firm has trained a couple of dozen apprentices, some now have their own firms and are training their own apprentices.
Doug has tutored in computing and computerised accounting for over 15 years, and also maintain several websites for various outside firms.
Doug is a Past President of the Wellington Master Plumbers Assocaition and a Past President of the Master Plumbers, Gasfitters 7 DRainlayers NZ Inc Society. Doug currently sits on the Board of the Master Plumbers and the Plumbers Journal.
